I've been here, I've been there, before Seems like everywhere I turn I found myself looking for home. So why can't I be there, once and for all? I've been here, I've been there, before Seems like everywhere I turn I found myself looking for home. So why can't I be there, once and for all? At first sight, I thought that it was paradise. But then, reality crept in and took me away. Now I'm feeling so alone, and no one is there No one walks in the same place, no one takes the fall I've been here, I've been there, before Seems like everywhere I turn I found myself looking for home. So why can't I be there, once and for all?

Firewatch 06:36
Don’t look at me
See me for all I am
Who am I but a shell of my self Impression? An ember of potential Snuffed out by my own cold breath You’re right, I’m not what I seem I’m so much more

 There’s gonna be
 A firewatch
 There’s gonna be
A firewatch

 Don’t follow me
Tell me how worthy I am Who are we but withering plants on the shelf Ourselves? Remember, you’re special Just like all the rest With light, my shadow is seen A fraud, a liar, a thief,

 A firestarter

(I’m not who I am to you)
So long as you keep dancing with yourself Unapologetically (Don’t look at me)
You’ll always have your own style
(I’m not who I am to you) No one can move like you can Not exactly
(Don’t look at me)
(I’m not who I am to you)
I know what’s coming, I’m ahead of my time
But then, there’s doubt (I’m not who I am to you) God, I’m just like everyone else
 (I am who I am)
 And that
(I am who I am) That’s when I start to feel behind
(I am who I am)
But you know what?
(I am who I am)
I am who I am There’s gonna be
 A firewatch
 There’s gonna be
A firewatch

 There’s gonna be
A firewatch
There’s gonna be
A firewatch

There’s gonna be
A firewatch
 There’s gonna be
 A firewatch

I can try and do right Yet still do and say wrong ‘Cause as much as I know what’s best I’m addicted to being a mess Said to myself, “Not this again” While cheating on resolutions Not a minute too soon, since I’ve found a solution to All of my problems, so I’m gonna make More room for mistakes Little do I know What promises that I’ll break You can see a little bit of Hesitation in my face But isn’t it better that way?
 That way
How can you tell I’m lonely Without me saying it?
How can you tell I’m drunk Without me showing it?

Maybe it’s a cry for help Maybe I’m not well, or Maybe I don’t give a shit About trying to be perfect When life and other people are hell, so I’m gonna make More room for mistakes Little do I know What promises that I’ll break You can see a little bit of Hesitation in my face But isn’t it better that way?
That way I’m gonna make More room for mistakes Little do I know What promises that I’ll break You can see a little bit of Hesitation in my face But isn’t it better that way?

I’m gonna make More room for mistakes Little do I know What promises that I’ll break You can see a little bit of Hesitation in my face But isn’t it better that way?
 That way

Ouroboros 06:05
Snake, eating its own tail Failure feeds the fool Who eats their fill But who else is fed On victorious spoils When no one wins Or loses? To lose, sometimes, is to win Or learn Demons crawling in my skin Sinning is the saint Who saves themselves But who else is saved When the saints are all gone - When the saints have sinned And sold their souls? To be saved, sometimes, is to suffer Or lie Sun, rises and sets Light begets the day And darkness, night Yet, what is the dark But the day without light The heart, sans love The sinner, with no saint The snake, eating its own tail?

about

Sun is the Second of four planned EP's of the Manzanita Project, which explores the cyclical nature of our existence. Mentally, Physically, Spiritually, etc.

Sun is centered on the matured nature of self-reflection. Criticisms of self and society are coupled with the seemingly futile attempt to remain happy and sane amongst it all. The oppressive heat of Sun pushes you to the brink, but doesn't let you go just yet.

Happiness gives way to cynicism, yet returns back to acceptance and joy. Looking outward and inward, we deploy a restrained critique in an effort to strive for perfection. But what is perfection if it's an asymptote?

The warmth that Sun offers you can be just as deadly as it is invigorating. Be aware, self-serving, yet beware self-indulgence. Beware over-criticizing yourself. Beware criticizing others. Learn to love yourself, or else this vicious cycle will only continue.

Such are the ruminations Sun explores. I hope this EP makes you feel something, the way it has for me many times over.

All music written by Sean Emmett Thompson.
Lyrics in Firewatch written by Alex Whiler, Ezra Teshome, Hayley Goldstein, Spenser Steinman, and Sean Emmett Thompson.

Special thanks to:
- Andy Merrill, Elijah Collins, Ezra Teshome, Gavin Leeper, Jonathan Corwin, Kevin Figueroa, Morgan McPoland, Phil Di Leo, Rosa and Ruby Ashkenaze, and Tyler Hafer for listening to endless edits and giving feedback during the production of this damn thing. You gave me confidence in my own music.

- MEW - The group which helped me realize I am actually good at what I do, and that it doesn't have to take a year to make a song. They are the reason Homeward Soul 2.0 and Happy! (Whether I Like It Or Not) exist.

- Rosa Ashkenaze, separately from earlier mentions, for just being my absolutely amazing partner and being there for me through all of my internal and external crises. I would have never released this EP without your unending love and support. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
